HMSI to maintain sales growth momentum this year

The company is expanding its footprint in the semi-urban areas in a big way

Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India (HMSI) would maintain its sales growth this fiscal despite the general slowdown in the two-wheeler segment, a senior company official said today.

HMSI, which registered a 30% increase in sales during 2011-12 with sales of 21 lakh vehicles, aims to grow at a similar pace this year, as against the 12 to 13% growth of the segment, Ashish Choudhary, Division Head, South Region at HMSI, told reporters here.

"There has been a general slowdown in sales, but we are growing at a rapid pace and HMSI has clocked 60% growth in the first quarter of this year," Choudhary claimed.
HMSI's new plant in Karnataka, which would have a capacity to produce 12 lakh units a year, would become operational by next year, he said, adding, this plant would take total production capacity beyond the 40 lakh mark.

Choudhary, here to launch 110-cc bike 'Dream Yuga' said the company aims to sell 6,000 units each month in the South. This was an unexplored segment for the company and the bike is HMSI's first mass model and expected to do well, he said.

The company, with a presence mostly in urban areas, is expanding its footprint in the semi-urban areas in a big way, Choudhary said, adding that they also planned to aggressively expand dealer network from 121 and 160 secondary service centres in the Southern Region.
