Hero Honda sells 5 lakh units in Dec

The controversies of its impending split notwithstanding, the country's largest two-wheeler maker by volumes Hero Honda posted sales of 5 lakh units-plus in the last month of the calendar year. The company’s sales in December jumped 33% to 5,01,111 units. Cumulative sales for the calendar year stood at 14,28,030 units for Hero Honda, a jump of 29% from 11,11,372 units last year.

“A double digit growth rate despite the large base of previous year is the reflection of confidence and trust that our customers and business partners repose in us. For the coming year, we further intend to solidify our leadership by launching new products combined with customer-focused marketing programmes,” said Anil Dua, senior vice-president (sales & marketing) Hero Honda.

The company, which enjoys a market share of over 50%, maintained its dominant position. Though its Pune-based rivals Bajaj Auto is yet to declare results for December,it is unlikely that they would come anywhere close to Hero Honda’s numbers. TVS Motors sold saw its sales jump 46% to 1,49,357 units in December 2010 compared to 102,479 units reported in December 2009. HMSI total two-wheeler sales stood at 1,30,084 in December, a growth of 10% over last year.
